Hanging Weight vs. Take-Home Weight

Please read before purchasing your beef share.

Our beef shares are priced by hanging weight, not the amount of packaged beef you take home.

Hanging Weight: The weight of the carcass after harvest, once the hide, head, blood, and internal organs have been removed. This is the weight used to calculate the cost of your share.

Take-Home Weight: The amount of finished, packaged beef you receive after cutting and processing. Take-home weight is typically around 60–65% of hanging weight, but this is only an estimate.

For example, a 400 lb hanging weight may result in approximately 240-260 lbs of packaged beef.

The difference comes from bones, fat, trim, moisture loss, and your individual cut selections. Choosing more boneless cuts can also reduce your final take-home weight.

By purchasing a beef share, you are purchasing based on hanging weight—not a guaranteed amount of packaged beef. Final weights and yields will vary by animal and processing selections.

• Beef price: $5.00 per pound hanging weight
• The deposit paid today is applied toward your final balance
• Final pricing is determined by the actual hanging weight of the animal
• A detailed invoice will be provided before pickup
• Processing fees are separate and depend on your selected cuts
  (included on the final invoice)
