About Us

Some of you may know, most of you probably don’t, so here’s the story of how we got into raising pigs and pasture poultry.

It was July of 2019 and I (Jessie) had just gone through the worst break up in my 26 years of existence. I had been wanting to raise pigs for some time and finally there was no one to tell me no. A good friend of mine knew a lady that had a fair pig that didn’t make the cut. I went and picked up that first pig for free from 10 miles down the road. That same friend’s husband was at my farm when I got back, he took one peek in the trailer and told me to take it to butcher, feed yourself. He also (in his one-of-a-kind way) informed me “most people buy a motorcycle or sports car after a bad break up, not bring home a pig.”

A week later that piggy went to market. The meat I got back was completely different than what I was buying in the store and half the cost. I decided to give this whole hog raising thing a try and within a month was the proud owner of three piglets. I had made a “cute” pen out of an old chicken coop with a small run, perfect for three piglets. “Perfect for three piglets,” quickly became I need to expand.

Along comes Matt. He had no clue what he was getting himself into but he was all in, from day one. There hasn’t been a time he has told me no (although I’m sure he would like to at least once a week). I’m happy to say we have survived Covid and many other adventures/mishaps together in our few years together. I’m still waiting to hear back from the doctor, because even after all the animals I bring home and “brilliant” ideas I have, a year into this madness, he asked me to marry him. I said yes.

Back to the barnyard….

By the following winter/spring Covid hit, shelves were empty and everyone was panicking. We went from three pigs to 15 pigs overnight. All 15 pigs were sold before we ever brought them here. Things continued to grow and we decided to get the kids into raising meat birds for a fair project. We bought 12 Cornish Cross chicks and got started in meat birds. That first batch was hard to sell. They were beautiful birds but there seemed to be no market. Friends and family bought the birds and the feedback was great. We decided to increase of quantity the following year for birds since who knew where the world would be by that point. We figured if nobody would buy them, we could always keep them for ourselves. Little did we know, our farm fresh poultry would become our easiest product to move from that point on.

We have grown so much in the past (almost) three years. We enjoy being able to help people connect with where their food comes from. We have MANY fun stories, some much more embarrassing than others. We want to share the good and the bad days with you. We want you to laugh with us (and at us at times). Understand a bit more about where your food comes from. Feel the love we pour into what we do and share the stories that come from it. We always joke around that there is never a dull moment but it couldn’t be truer.

We hope you will join us for the ride!
